Monthly Workshops

Our Next Workshop:

Sunday, May 13, 2012 at 1:00 pm
Sleuth's Mystery Dinner Shows
8267 International Drive, Orlando

Please note new location! Our Second Sundays series has moved to Sleuth's Mystery Dinner Shows, and now begin at 1:00pm instead of 1:30.

What happens at our workshops?

All writers are welcome to bring any piece they're working on, from a ten minute short to a full length work. While our primary focus is on play writing, we have in the past given feedback on screenplays as well. You don't have to be a member to bring a script or attend, and admission is free.

Scripts are then cold read by our group, which usually contains a selection of actors from all over Central Florida. Following the read, there is a feedback period for the writer to discuss what worked and what didn't in their play.

Many of the scripts that are produced in our various annual productions get their start in the workshops.

Usually, the monthly workshop takes places on the second Sunday of each month, but may occasionally be changed due to ongoing productions.

New Guidelines for 2nd Sundays Workshops

Due to the success of holding our workshops down at Sleuth's, with great attendance and a LOT of scripts (many very good ones, we might add!) coming through, we must now ask that if you are planning to bring in a script for a reading, you must first e-mail us at info@theprt.com to schedule your scripts.

You may e-mail us to request a slot until the day prior to the workshop. Please include your name, script title, and approximate length of the script in minutes (in general, a 10 page script can run between 10-12 minutes, a one-act between 20 to 45 minutes, and a full-length from 90-120 minutes). We will schedule as many as our time allows us, with the understanding that full-length plays will generally only read a couple of scenes to start.

The general order of readings is first-come, first-served based on the time slot requests; however, PRT member playwrights, if in attendance, will have their plays read first, then the rest down the line (member playwrights must still request a reading slot, however, and must arrive on time or they lose their slot).

Keep in mind, you DO NOT have to be a member to attend our workshops or bring a script in for a reading, and it is always free to any member of the public who wishes to join us. This is simply to ensure that we have enough time to fairly read and comment upon everyone's scripts.

We hope you will all continue to use this free service to our theatrical community, and enjoy hearing and helping the work of your fellow writers. If you have any questions, please e-mail us at info@theprt.com.
